The space shuttle was an Icon of these dreams and I've always wanted to bring it, or the ideas it represents into my ceramics.

With these sculptural pieces I feel I've done just that and each one is truly a labour of love, individually cast from 8 handmade moulds that have been hand crafted to ensure the best representation of the shuttle, I then join all the pieces and carve an area for a hook so they can be wall hung until they are left to dry for several weeks.

The piece then undergoes two firings, one to turn the clay to ceramic and a second to add the galaxy colours you see here, the chemical reactions at 1200 degrees that give these beautiful colours are cold compared to the re-entry temperature of the shuttle but once cool these glossy pieces are ready for display.

Each one has a hole for wall hanging or can be placed on a mantelpiece or shelf. I really hope you enjoy them as much as I do, they are the perfect treat for a sci-fi lover or a wonderful piece of art for the home.

Approx 24cm L x 17cm W x 10cm H
