Each session is booked in advance; these are not drop-in sessions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePottery thrown during a two-hour lesson cannot be completed in that same session. It needs time to firm up before trimming and finishing, then further drying and firing. Returning for another session gives you the opportunity to work on the next stage yourself. The weekly outline below gives you an idea of what to expect, with activities adapted to the readiness of your pottery.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat you'll learn\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWeek 1: Introduction to clay, tools, wedging and preparing clay, centring on the wheel, opening and beginning to pull the walls of a pot.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWeek 2: Practise centring, opening and pulling walls to create simple cylinders and tumblers, building consistency and control.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWeek 3: Explore bowls and other simple vessels, proportions and rims. Trim and refine bases where pieces have dried to the right stage.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWeek 4: Explore surface decoration, which may include underglaze, simple patterns, texture and sgraffito, and prepare suitable work for its first firing.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWeek 5: Learn about choosing and applying glazes, firing temperatures and finishes. Glaze suitable bisque-fired work or practise techniques and prepare pieces for glazing, depending on their stage.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat's included?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFive individually taught sessions of two hours each.
